Our History
OUR HISTORY – Est. 2015
Whitfield Academy is an Independent Christian school consisting of a boy’s preparatory school, a girl’s preparatory school (Grades 0 to 7). It opens its doors on 11 January 2016 with 209 Learners both boys and girls. Initiated and driven by the Founders, Elnette Viljoen and Devaris Gatsi supported by the Parents, Whitfield Academy opened in Sun Village on 11 January 2016. This initiative is in response to an increasing shortage of independent co-educational primary schools in the Moses Kotane East area and the need to provide education appropriate to the changing local and international environment.
The first Pre-Primary(grade R) learners were enrolled. At present, 98 learners are accommodated in this facility. The After School Care Centre provides care for up to 100 learners every afternoon. Today the school has an enrolment of over 250 learners, a teaching staff of 12 and 15 support staff.
Children with Special Needs
We offer opportunities for children with special learning needs to achieve success within the framework of their own abilities. Learners are identified on an ongoing basis and are encouraged to participate in school activities -and a spirit of support and understanding is fostered.
Extra Curricular Activities
To ensure that our learners are afforded the chance to explore outside their immediate environs; tours are arranged on a termly basis which involves outdoor education and adventure learning programmes. This allows our children to be exposed to a wide range of social and physical learning experiences. Various educational productions take place in the hall to help learners deal with the many socio-economic perils they face in their daily lives.
The school does have a compulsory extramural programme that varies according to the sports season.
The School Today
Currently the majority of our learners come from the previously disadvantaged communities of Ledig, Chaneng and Mogwase, who gain valuable and holistic educational instruction that enables them to cope in our diverse society and to be able to enter secondary schooling with confidence.
